You probably know iCarly, Victorious, Sam & Cat, Game Shakers, Henry Danger, and other Dan Schneider Nickelodeon hits. Well, “All That” came before all that! It’s rare to get a glimpse behind the scenes of an iconic 90s show, but that’s what we have today.
In this video, we catch a glimpse of a young Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell in the makeup room getting transformed into senior citizen sketch characters Mavis and Clavis. It involves a lot of makeup and fake hair (facial and otherwise), topped off with super-cool vintage-style glasses and hats.
The video shows all the work that goes into transforming these young comedians into, well, eccentric old comedians.
The best part is how Kenan and Kel, an iconic duo even today, play off each other during their makeup session in their “Mavis & Clavis” voices. They even marvel about how “C-A-ameras” work. It’s like two old men getting shaves at the barber shop, except instead it’s two teens getting aged with makeup. “They made my chin look like a butt!” Kenan exclaims at one point.
Whether or not you remember Mavis & Clavis, you’re sure to be delighted by this blast to the past. And if you miss these two, remember—they’re still on TV! You can see Kenan on SNL, and as for Kel, he’s playing the notorious Double G on Dan Schneider Nickelodeon sitcom “Game Shakers.”
It’s amazing following the careers of beloved childhood heroes, and even better to get a peek behind the scenes along the way. We hope these two stick around on TV until they look like Mavis and Clavis in real life. It will take some time to get there, but we already know they’ll rock the look!
